THE GATES OF SLUMBER Frontman Interviewed On 'Heady Metal With Jeff Olson' (Audio)

June 3, 2011

Guitarist and vocalist Karl Simon of Indianapolis doomsters THE GATES OF SLUMBER was interviewed on this past Monday's (May 30) edition of "Heady Metal With Jeff Olson", the Internet radio show hosted by original TROUBLE drummer and RETRO GRAVE mainman Jeff "Oly" Olson. You can now listen to the chat in three parts below.

Part 3:

THE GATES OF SLUMBER' new album, "The Wretch", was released in May via Rise Above/Metal Blade. The CD was recorded at England's Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, ANGEL WITCH).

Weaned on BLACK SABBATH, ST. VITUS, the melodic might of IRON MAIDEN and a host of classic bands from THIN LIZZY to RAINBOW to MERCYFUL FATE, THE GATES OF SLUMBER draws deep from heavy metal's most powerful blood and delivers doom metal in its purest form. The band has been called "a breath of fresh air within the doom / true metal underground." The trio's powerful songwriting and instrumental skull-crushing is heavy and chillingly bleak in an almost unrelenting way that hasn't been heard since JUDAS PRIEST's heyday ("Sad Wings of Destiny", "Sin After Sin", etc.). Displaying a powerful focus and direction, THE GATES OF SLUMBER is at once powerfully compelling, tight in its grooves and unrivaled in its sheer power.

"Heady Metal With Jeff Olson" airs on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. EST exclusively for Metal Messiah Radio with the podcasts available the following day at the show's web site, HeadyMetalWithJeffOlson.com.

"Heady Metal With Jeff Olson" is Olson's first radio show endeavor and features interviews with musicians from different metal genres across the board, interesting people from all walks of life, comedic segments, music news, and giveaways.

Olson has been writing and recording in the music industry since the formation of TROUBLE (1979) and holds a Bachelor of Music degree in film scoring, cum laude, from Berklee College Of Music.
